Holiday Greetings and Reflections
Dear FOA Team,
As the holiday season unfolds, I'm reminded of cherished memories and the importance of time away from work.
Growing up in Germany, my holidays were always a mix of laughter and learning, thanks to my educator parents. One of my fondest memories is of my father, dressed as the German "Nicolaus," visiting my mother's classes to surprise her students with treats. I'll never forget the year he wore tennis shoes with his costume instead of black boots — the students' laughter upon spotting the “impostor” was priceless.
I hope you take time to create your own memories this season. I'm a firm believer in the rejuvenating power of taking time off. This holiday season my husband and I will be riding road bikes through some of the poorest Caribbean regions, bringing much-needed items (cosmetics, bike parts and school supplies) to those in need. It's experiences like these that ground us and remind us of our own fortunes.
Speaking of fortunes, I thoroughly enjoyed the recent round of Mobile Socials — getting a chance to catch up with many FOA staff members, and even receiving an impromptu Spanish lesson, which will come in handy on my trip. Thank you for that delightful and educational interaction!
As we look ahead to 2024, I'm reminded of the incredible strides UC Davis has made this year, all thanks to the collective efforts of our dedicated FOA team. The New Year is an opportunity to renew our commitment and tackle challenges with renewed energy.
Thank you for your hard work and for contributing to our university’s success. Wishing you all a joyful holiday season.
