The Work Behind the Celebration

Vice Chancellor Clare Shinnerl
FOA Vice Chancellor Clare Shinnerl

Dear FOA Team,

As summer arrives, we see signs of transition all around us — caps and gowns, celebratory photos by the Eggheads, and joyful gatherings — all marking the end of the academic year.

Behind every student milestone are hundreds of FOA staff members doing the work that keeps our university moving — maintaining our classrooms and spaces, supporting systems that students use (like AggiePark and MyBill deposits), ensuring safety (like operating Safe Rides), enabling student-worker payroll, finishing construction on the first-ever housing complex on our Sacramento campus for medicine and nursing students, and so much more ...

While many of our students leave for the summer, FOA teams are shifting into high gear. Summer at UC Davis is anything but slow — from completing facility projects (did you notice the north water tower is getting covered and ready for repair?), making our grounds and spaces look great for summer camps, hiring employees to fill new health care facilities (48X in Sacramento, for example), closing the books on fiscal year 2024-25, and supporting our community in so many more ways. The work carries on.

I want to thank each of you for your continued dedication and care. I also hope you’ll find time to rest, recharge and reflect. This is a good season to pause and take pride in what we’ve accomplished — and to prepare ourselves for the important work ahead.

Thank you for all you do, in every season.

Warmly, Clare
