Throughout every chapter of his career — from military service to UC Davis, where he served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations and Administration — Blair Stephenson’s proudest moments weren’t about personal accolades. They were about providing the highest level of customer service while taking care of people: mentoring others, seeing careers blossom and making a difference in the lives of those he served.

Leslie Olsen

Leslie Olsen’s UC Davis journey began in 1991 as a student employee sorting mail, a humble start to a remarkable 34-year career defined by constant learning and passion for people.

By 1992, she had become a career employee and never stopped seeking out new challenges. “If a new task was presented, I always volunteered to be the one to do it,” Leslie shared, a mindset that provided opportunities from payroll, accounts payable and budget work to database management and IT support. Years later, she stepped into management, leading what she calls “the greatest team ever.”

  • Among the many memorable projects she contributed to, two stand out: the implementation of UCPath and her involvement with the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, a unique ophthalmic teaching hospital on a plane. Partnering with UC Davis Health, this global initiative trained nearly 50 ophthalmologists, nurses and biomedical engineers from across South America, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to combat avoidable blindness in their communities.

She also recalled her experience helping set the foundations for the UC Davis Womxn in Technology, an employee resource group that provides opportunities for career growth and community building for faculty and staff in technology-related fields. “One of my favorite memories was working with the wonderful women I met,” Leslie said.

While Leslie loved the challenge of learning new roles, she says the people made the biggest impact. “Even though I loved the constant learning of my multiple positions, the thing I will miss most are the wonderful people I've met and now consider friends.”

In retirement, Leslie plans to focus on “making memories” with her family and friends. After more than three decades of service, she leaves a lasting impact in leadership and collaboration.

She assisted in the implementation of the Kuali Financial System, UCPath and AggieEnterprise, helping update and streamline UC Davis’s core business functions.

Throughout her career, Kathy was known for her problem-solving mindset. When asked what she’ll miss most, she simply said, “Challenging myself.” And while she doesn’t live far from campus, it’s the community she worked with that will leave the biggest impression. “It’s the people who work at Davis I will miss the most. Especially all of my coworkers.”

Elizabeth Cruz started her career journey at UC Davis in 2001 as a customer service representative at the Central Storehouse. From the start, she loved the feeling of helping others and being part of something bigger than herself. • No matter where she worked, Elizabeth always showed up with a commitment to providing excellent service and supporting the people around her. And while the work sometimes pushed her out of her comfort zone, it also helped her grow in ways she never expected.

Elizabeth eventually found her way to FOA Business Partners, where she spent the last chapter of her UC Davis career. More than anything, what stands out to her is not just the work itself, but the incredible people she met along the way.

I am so blessed and honored to have met such wonderful colleagues throughout my years here. I’ll always cherish those memories.” Elizabeth Cruz

Moving into retirement, Elizabeth is ready to start a new adventure — one filled with travel, family, and fun. First up is her daughter’s wedding in Spain, followed by a trip to beautiful Positano, Italy, and another family celebration in Puerto Vallarta. And of course, Vegas, baby! Beyond that, she’s excited for weekend road trips, gardening, workouts and spending more time reading. One day, she hopes to take a year to RV across the country with more international travel on the horizon. After a career filled with service, growth and connection, Elizabeth is ready for the next adventure, with the road open ahead and plenty of new experiences waiting.
