FOA Mobilizes to Assist in LA Fires
As the fires in Los Angeles County continue to impact lives, businesses, and landscapes, our heartfelt thoughts are with everyone affected.
Currently, we have six members from the UC Davis Fire Department who are engaged in the firefighting efforts. Our firefighters are working tirelessly under challenging conditions to manage the blazes. Interim Fire Chief Nate Hartinger is also in LA, providing support to our sister campus at UCLA. Read more about how they’re helping.
I recently learned a touching story that I think embodies the spirit of UC Davis. An LA couple, whose son is a sophomore at UC Davis, spotted Chief Hartinger driving in Los Angeles. They wrote to Chancellor May: “We have always been proud to be a UC Davis family, but seeing a UC Davis Fire Department vehicle here, our pride grew even more. It was a powerful reminder of the incredible people and resources that make up our community.”
We also recognize that many within our own UC Davis family — students, staff and faculty — have personal ties to the affected areas. Whether you hail from LA, have loved ones there, or simply hold these communities close to your heart, please know that you are not alone in your concern.
Let's continue to support one another during this challenging time, and keep those affected in our thoughts.
Warm gratitude,
Clare
