Pavilion Parking Structure Operational Update
Restricted Access to Levels 5 and 6
On Thursday, May 16, campus began work on the Pavilion Parking Structure to restrict public vehicle and pedestrian access to levels 5 and 6 of the structure. Fencing will be installed on the ramps, elevators will no longer stop at levels 5 and 6 and the stairwell above the 4th floor will be locked. These levels will now only be accessible to campus-authorized vehicles. The decision by campus leadership to prohibit access was to address public health and safety concerns, including unauthorized gatherings on the top floor of the structure as well as harm-reduction measures.
While parking demand on campus is variable day to day, the Pavilion Parking Structure rarely operates at full capacity, with levels 5 and 6 being the most underutilized floors in the structure. Based on these trends, we anticipate this change will have minimal impact on those who park on campus. Sufficient parking can be found in nearby facilities, including Lot 30 (for students, employees, and visitors) and Lot 41 (for employees only until 5 p.m.). Transportation Services will also continue to evaluate parking demand and allocations throughout the fall to understand if any adjustments are needed.
