Imagine it’s your first day of work at UC Davis; you probably have a thousand questions. How do I get on the payroll? Where do I park? What is my work email? Where do I pick up an ID card? Before, you might have had to search for these answers on your own, navigating through various departments and websites. Now, new employee services are easily located in one place.
In an effort to make a more efficient process for new hires, the Shared Services Center (SSC) opens a New Employee Onboarding Center conveniently located on-campus, providing an “all-in-one” stop for new employee administrative tasks. The new center will be located on the second floor of the Transportation Services (TAPS) building to better serve the university staff and community.
Before, many new employees would navigate through a labyrinth of processes, from onboarding off-campus at the Shared Services Center, receiving a parking permit from TAPS, and obtaining a staff ID from Dutton Hall. Now, with the collaboration of TAPS and University Registrar, all these functions can be performed in one location.
All UC Davis employees can access the following services at the New Employee Onboarding Center:
- Employee ID card processing
- Parking Permits available for purchase
- Information about New Employee Welcome (NEW) orientation
- Staff Assembly pins available for purchase
“The main purpose of the New Employee Onboarding Center is to create a one-stop location where one can complete new hire paperwork processing and obtain necessary services they need before beginning employment,” expressed John Mueller, Human Resources Operations Manager for the Shared Services Center.
During an onboarding appointment, employees will complete new hire paperwork, schedule their benefits orientation, review university policies, receive information on safety, emergency, and worker’s compensation, learn how to access their university email, and more.
The Shared Service Center on boards approximately one third of the campus’ new employees in 8 divisions including:
- Office of the Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer – Finance, Operations and Administration
- Development and Alumni Relations
- Information and Education Technology
- Office of the Chancellor
- Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
- Office of Research
- Student Affairs
- University Library
The SSC on boards approximately 40 new employees per month and produces 60 new staff ID cards per week. The New Employee Onboarding Center will streamline the process for new hires, as well as ensure all services are utilized, by being available in one central location.
For example, many UCD employees never acquire an ID card, or an “AggieCard,” which has an array of benefits including checking out books from the library, discounts to on-campus dining through AggieCash, and access to department offices and buildings as a programmed proximity card. If you have yet to pick one up, or have lost one, they are now available at the New Employee Onboarding Center for no charge.
“I’m excited to see us offer this type of service to our new employees at UC Davis,” expressed Sara Reed, Director of the Shared Services Center. “We want them to feel welcomed to our campus community, and our ‘one stop shop’ can help make their first day or week that much easier. We look forward to continuing to grow and refine this service in support of our campus community.”
For SSC clients, pre-booked onboarding appointments, arranged at the time of hire, include 1-hour complementary parking in Pavilion Parking. Onboarding is available from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
For non-SSC clients, obtaining an ID card and other services are available only through appointment with 20-minute complementary parking, open from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule your appointment for an ID card online at employeeid.ucdavis.edu.
