Regular Website Audits Are Coming to FOA Sites — Here’s What to Expect
New standards aim to keep FOA websites fresh, helpful and ready for AI
Starting this year, FOA Communications is rolling out a website audit program to help departments keep their web content current, easy to navigate and useful — for both people and AI tools.
The first round of audits will begin this month and includes the following FOA websites:
- UC Davis Police Department
- UC Davis Fire Department
- Facilities Management
- Design and Construction Management
- Front Door
Why this matters
FOA websites are more than brochures. They’re service tools, help desks and the digital front door for our work. Clear, well-organized content makes it easier for people to find what they need — and reduces the number of emails and questions you have to answer.
Plus, these sites are increasingly being used by search engines and AI tools. If our content isn’t up to date, we risk giving people the wrong information — or being left out entirely.
What this means for you
During the audit, FOA Communications will lead the review process and provide direct support to web editors.
The focus will be on a small set of priority content:
- Basic pages and special content types will be reviewed for accuracy and clarity.
- Person pages will be reviewed for alignment with current staffing, but in the future should be handled during the onboarding and offboarding process.
- Articles and image galleries do not require review.
A few important reminders
All FOA websites are expected to live within our Site Farm Site Factory umbrella. If your site isn’t currently part of that structure, we’d be happy to talk with you about next steps. And if you’re planning a new website, please reach out to FOA Communications before you begin. We can help you think through the purpose and scope, develop a plan, and ensure the new site aligns with FOA’s digital standards.
