Digest: Making the Most of Winter Break

Employee testing available at Healthy Davis Together kiosks over winter break

During winter break, employees and students may use the Healthy Davis Together testing kiosks at the Davis Senior Center or the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Appointments for these kiosks must be arranged through the Healthy Davis Together website.

The testing question will be removed from the Daily Symptom Survey during the break. After winter break, students and employees will need to return to the ARC testing kiosk. Find more winter break guidance on the Campus Ready website.


FOA winter holiday operations

Over the winter holidays and campus soft closure period, Dec. 21 - Jan.1, most FOA services will be closed. However, we remain committed to maintaining essential campus services. These units will remain open or provide limited services during this time.

Each year during the winter break, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in empty buildings are relaxed to save money and energy. This year, engineers are using the holiday shutdown as an opportunity to further test the campus's potential for reducing steam demand. Read more and see which buildings are affected.

In mid-November, a crane carried a massive amalgamation of pipes and tanks into a temporary building just off California Avenue. This piece of machinery is a heat exchanger and a crucial piece of the Big Shift—a multi-year project that is helping move our campus toward a carbon-neutral future. Read more.

University ranks first in sustainability

Thanks to a campuswide commitment helmed by the Office of Sustainability, UC Davis has once again ranked first in the nation (and fifth in the world) for sustainability in GreenMetric World University Ranking. Jan. 15 is the deadline to update personal information, verify dependents and opt for electronic W-2s before UCPath begins processing W-2s in late January. Read more about the Earned Income Tax Credit Act, tax withholding exemption and information for international employees.

Hundreds of toys donated in Toys for Tots drive

This year's annual Toys for Tots drive, hosted by Supply Chain Management's Mail Services team on behalf of the Marine Corps Reserve, resulted in 276 toys for Yolo County children. Many thanks to all who participated, especially the Police and Fire departments, who made major contributions to the drive. Read more.

 La Rue Bridge reopens

The La Rue Bridge replacement project and 2-year detour around the bridge is officially over, with the paths in the Arboretum now open to the public just in time for scenic strolls and holiday hikes. Read more.
