Stephayne Gascón became one of two inaugural interns to kickstart the VC-CFO internship program at UC Davis in 2015. Being the first in her family to attend college, she commuted 65 miles daily, earned two simultaneous bachelor degrees in Molecular Biochemistry and Economics, and completed both in her four years at UC Davis.

Stephayne's interest in public policy began by establishing commitments with Placer County and the City of Roseville, which further galvanized her fervor to persevere, and led her to serve her UC campus in a variety of leadership roles while on the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Advisory Board, the Chancellor’s University of the 21st Century Committee and other administrative advisory committees.

Her drive, determination, and unwavering ambition have enabled the harnessing of her commanding experience as a liaison for business and governmental relations. She has, twice, been rewarded with the United States Presidential Gold Service Award for her dedicated commitment to university and regional service, and has also earned the Prestigious UC Davis Margarita Robinson Student Leadership Award.

In her internship, she worked with former Chief of Staff Diane Davies-Conley to lead the joint CFO-CIO Project Management initiative by implementing a robust set of project management metrics through the Business Management & Analysis Group.  Stephayne also worked with Executive Director Hampton Sublett in providing cost-benefit analyses during the beginning stages of the Financial Sustainability Action Plan (FSAP) initiative.

Stephayne will be graduating in June 2016 with a Master of Science in Agricultural & Resource Economics. Her pursuit for higher learning is paving an eventual path towards a Ph.D.
